Nah, the uc_stock isn't a one-to-one replacement... and looking at the code lately, I'm not sure it was even a better substitute for the inventory API. The things you discover after the fact... in any event, I've heard of a couple efforts to re-tool something like the simple stock levels module to plug into the core uc_stock. Should find it in search, but I don't have any links on hand.
