I don't think you are treading on anyone's toes mate, you have addressed (ahem, pardon the pun =)an issue, and come up with a perfect solution.

I assume this hooks in perfect with the Postage module? (i am using Auspost).

I think this opens up the door perfectly (as stated) the ability to send gifts to people.

Anyhow, I will add this to our test site, and give feedback.
