Ubercart isnt e-commerce.module. Ubercart sticks way out above a lot of drupal modules in terms of usability and functionality. You know why? Because some good developers and projectleads made a decent plan, and sticked to it. They did (and do) listen to community, but keep the red line of the initial plan. Never implement things because some people shout that you should.

I suggest that they continue doing just that.
I'm 100% behind the Uber devs in progressing to D6, any way they are PLANNING to do so.
