At present, things like shipping quotes are generated using data in form fields from previous checkout panes. My hunch is as someone progresses through checkout, you can just keep writing this data to the screen in hidden fields with the same name... so that JS shouldn't break. This is an untested hunch atm, though.

I guess the order should get created once the very first step is completed.
