The fact that 'model' is not unique in products table (and even there's no indexing on it) is kinda surprise for me (I was pretty sure it is, so I even didn't check this out).
Bad news, but thanks for pointing this out.

Anyway, I'm considering all these import/update modules as a starting point for developers. So again, huge thanks for another great possibility.
