Lullabot's Do It With Drupal conference is next week, so I've been spending some time these last couple of days to prepare a demo site that I will walk through during my session. I imagine it will come in handy when doing one-on-one chats and ad hoc presentations as well. Lyle helped me populate it with products while I continue to add bells and whistles. So now, I'm looking for feedback on what's there and other great ideas on how to really make it shine...

What's there?

  • The theme was donated by Top Notch Themes. It's called Sharp Sales and is actually their best seller. It's good for D5 and D6 and has some built in styling for Ubercart components. I'm using D5 for the site.
  • Full product catalog w/ various ways to display products on the site.
  • Product reviews enabled through Voting API/Fivestar in comments on product nodes.
  • Extra community features to help those products sell... Enter the promo code DIWD to get in the network. Eye-wink
  • Oh yeah. Promotions. Cool This was a system sponsored by Warner Bros. Records forever ago that I forgot about releasing. It's UNBELIEVABLE, and I can't wait to unleash it on everyone.
  • SimpleNews newsletter and block to stay in touch w/ customers.
  • Tell a friend module used to recommend the site to friends.
  • Very trimmed down and focused checkout forms.
  • Did I mention the theme is great? Smiling

I'm all ears... let's really make Ubercart shine! Any e-commerce ideas you want to recommend are fair game. I'll be adding some more products to showcase attributes and various product features, and I'll do a little more with the DIWD network. Some of the links in the footer aren't done yet, but be sure to read the privacy policy before buying. Eye-wink

Check it out!

Ryan, Pardon me for begging,

Ryan,

Pardon me for begging, BUT,

[Begging]Will you post the promotions module? Please?[/Begging]

[Idea]I would still love to see a receipt/invoice when folks checkout. I know they can log in and they get email, etc., but people really do like seeing immediate details of their purchase.[/Idea]

That's my 2 cents.

Thanks for all you do. Love Ubercart!

Alan.

WOW!!! What can I say...

WOW!!! Shocked What can I say... You are wonderful!!! Laughing out loud

Thank you VERY much Ryan. I appreciate you taking the time to post the module. I am pretty new to Drupal and Ubercart but I am quickly getting up to speed. I am working on getting my coding skills into shape so I can tweak and tune, and hopefully contribute too.

Thanks again,

Alan.

I just did a test order at the demo site and was impressed with how good everything looked and how WELL it worked, but it looks even better with that Sharp Sales theme.

There's a winning product. Being new to Drupal, I'm going to be bald any day now!

I do have a suggestion/question. I'm looking for a way for merchants to accept alternative currencies such as the new Trado. Here's how it works:

I currently accept 50% Trados for all my products and services.

1) I have a subscription forum and I created a new product for each subscription at 50% of the full price in aMember. The buyer orders as usually, but pays only 50% and then has to go to his Trado account to send me the other 50%.

2) I offer services and I created a voucher in my cart for 50% off. The buyer enters "Trado" in the voucher field, clicks on "recalculate" and then pays the 50% in dollars. Again, he has to separately send the other 50% from his Trado account to my Trado account.

Needless to say, it's not only cumbersome for the buyer, but a giant headache for sellers even with just one sale per day.

I had a client order $200 in services, he placed the $100 order and then sent 50 Trados. I have no idea what he calculated.

So what really needs to be done is to have the cart calculate the Trado percentage, AUTHORIZE the Trado transaction, PROCESS the dollar amount and when that's approved, FINALIZE the Trado transaction.

A merchant should be able to easily change the maximum Trado percentage he accepts and of course the buyer should have the option to pay the entire amount in dollars.

I'm using Cyclos for the Trados and here's some info on their modules:
http://project.cyclos.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=217&...

The Croatian Crom currency is also on Cyclos and they're currently integrating dollars and euros and that gives it the potential of PayPal on steroids. But it's not going to work until we can process these split transactions.

I'll greatly appreciate any feedback on what it takes to make this happen, potential issues, etc.

I'm going to download Ubercart now and maybe I should take a pic of me while I still have any hair Eye-wink

Just got a wholesale account for organic coffee, tea and spices so I can show people how EASY it is to make a few bucks when you lose your job or business is slow. Wish me luck! LOTS of luck ...

Too bad

After spending many hours reading here and elsewhere, it looks to me like there is no stable release for Drupal 6.

I'm very disappointed, Drupal seems to be geared towards big corporations with lots of $$$ for custom programming.

Not really... that's why Ubercart is here. Sticking out tongue

There is a beta 1 release that people have been using on production sites for some time now. You just need to stay on top of updates and you should be fine, especially for your initial development.

About the previous post, I'm not really sure what you've got going on there, but if you start to develop a payment solution and get stumped, I'd recommend you open a new thread to find support on a specific part of the development. Smiling
