Shopping Cart: http://whatever.com VS. http://www.whatever.com

I went to my site using http:// whatever.com (ignore space), put something in my cart, viewed the cart, surfed the site, then went to http:// www. whatever.com/cart (ignore spaces). Bam - it was empty. Took out the www and everything was back. It obviously looks at them as two different things. Could be potentially confusing for customers.

You should edit your .htaccess to enforce one or the other. Drupal puts the code in there, you just have to uncomment and modify it for your URL.

Could also do this in vhost.conf or httpd.conf so that it's server-wide. *.domain.com -> www.domain.com across the board.

I've actually always done that. I force the www into all of my URLs. It's good for search engine indexing anyway. But I figured I'd mention it since it's still common with many sites not to have that, and most people I know type whatever.com into their address bars, almost always omitting the www.
