Hey guys,
i'm finishing up putting together a point of sale module that basically overrides (or skips) most of the checkout process usually given to anonymous (or registered customers) and would minify the number of clicks associated with processing an order. It seems to be coming out well and as just a few overrides of the normal checkout process. I can't say i'm really running into any problems, but i'm interested to hear what is requested from the community for features.

my current feature set includes a compact view of the products with as much ajaxd views integration to make it as quick as possible. Some of this may seem rudimentary, but i'll explain where i can at this point.
multiple orders saved as either in-checkout or pending to emulate a sort of "on-hold order"
direct links to printable views and possibility for 60/80 column invoice view, i.e. receipt printing
views integration for the minified catalog view (i have chosen the grid view)

again, this is pretty much the feature set i have and encourage any suggestions, requests or anyone else's current implementations of something that gives a similar functionality. my main concern here is to divide some permissions where employees or clerks are given ability to process sales or returns.

also, i'm having trouble with option attribute selection in uc_ajax_cart, though i have not taken a look further than downloading the new 2.0 version of uc_ajax_cart, i trust it will provide a better experience than its predecessor.

Soon enough as well, this will include use of an upcoming uc_stock_barcode module to integrate the barcode cck module with the stock and inventory api.

discuss.

p.s. i have an epson tm88iv here begging to be used for this but i cannot get printer drivers working under cups. PLS HELP!!1

Re: Point of Sale module

Great idea, I had been thinking these past few days of starting work on the same project. I'm curious - what is the checkout process going to be like? My idea was going to be something very close to the "Create Order" function already in UC. My main goal was to be able to have a way for the site owner to run the operation from a mobile device, ie Blackberry or iPhone. Either add products from the UC catalog, add a line item for a product, and be able to take a credit card and email the receipt without having to make an account for the customer.

Re: Point of Sale module

Many retail users would be pleased to have a POS that just prints picktickets and invoices from a regular printer.

The barcode thing is necessary in most cases, but there are plenty of retail shops that don't need it.

There are plenty of storefront stores that sell in the store and the web, that don't need barcodes.

Cash drawer managment would be a plus for them as well.

Then, if you had the ability to migrate the data to quickbooks... Voila!

Re: Re: Point of Sale module

I don't think quickbooks is necessary. I'm interested to know what everyone specifically likes about quickbooks, other than that it provides a standardized method to waste time.

It's cost alone is a reason to not buy it.

Furthermore, this module is not intended for any quickbooks integration at all. Simply to generate orders without registering a new user every time. I am interested in your suggestion for cash drawr management. Please correct me if there is a cash payment module. For now, my implementation will be using the "other" for cash payments.

To help define the cash management, what else would be needed other than till reconciliation?

thanks for the feedback.
