Inventory / Stock Management Battle Plans

Getting busy with the Ubercode.

Hi you all.

Ryan suggested on the "Inventory API & Simple Stock Levels" contributions thread to open a battle plans discussion for the inventory module that hopefully should be included on the first release of Ubercart. Since CpILL who has created that first solution said on that thread that he's not trying to promote that module to core, even possibly abandoning the project and since I'm contributing some personal improvements to Alex code I've decided to open that thread with the aim to start the discussion.

I know that agreeing to a complete solution could be complex, but Ryan itself exposed that for a 1.0 release Ubercart requires some inventory solution, simple or not. Everybody can see on http://www.ubercart.org/contrib/132 the progress on CpILL solution, where I added some links on the Reports Store Admin area to list products store levels to see how the stock is going on with red lines for out of stock products and yellow ones for products below an acceptable level. Some people is having some complains but the solutions looks to be working on my install (some shop I'm already developing) despite some small details. Is it good enough to use it as the base for the core inventory solution?, should it be written from scratch? What we all want on Ubercart for inventory management?

Well, the thread to start talking about it is open, let's encourage the great uber-team to afford it Smiling

Yes, once I have launched my current customer with this module I'll be looking for someone to take it over as I don't plan to maintain it forever. I will get it to a point where it works in all major browsers before I stop work on it as the community as testers are a valuable resource.

That said, would you be interested in assuming command when I've finished jorditr?

Hi Alex. Thanks for your proposal, but I can't accepts, since my knowledge in php and drupal is average and good enough for many things I have to admit a complete lack of expertise in Javascript. I can try to cope with the php part but I can't solve issues on the javascript area. Hopefully someone else will be able or even the uber-team finally define a strategy for that issue, maybe based on what is proposed right now.
