Ok, the initial address book feature of Ubercart is now working for logged in users and on the order administration page. Basically, the theory behind it is that people may like to ship to previous addresses, but for the most part (as in, I don't personally know who isn't like this) people don't care to put their address into an address book on a site before ever placing an order.

So, the Ubercart address book isn't an actual page people browse to to fill out information. When a logged in user goes to checkout or a store admin modifies an order, an address book widget is available if previously used addresses are found. This is accomplished with a simple query to the orders table to find the previous delivery or billing addresses used in orders by the customer. If none are found, no address book is displayed. The user can select an address and it will fill out the information for them.

Woohoo. Sticking out tongue

Hi Ryan,

I think there is a little usability problem with the current system of selecting saved addresses. Imagine that customer enters two different addresses with exactly the same street addresses (which happens to be the title of saved addresses). Then, how does he/she know which one to choose from drop-down menu?

Yeah... that actually happens to my account on the Livetest right now. I haven't spent any time brainstorming on it, though I'm up for proposed solutions. Just being creative, but it could be worked to use Thickbox to pop-up an address book page that lets them select from a list of full addresses (like Amazon.com)... or you could just let users give titles to the addresses they've used in the past.

What are your thoughts on improvement?

(Worst that can happen right now is I just have to click one or two extra times to get the right one.)

One easy improvement would be to order saved addresses in the dropdown so that the latest address is uppermost. But it doesn't solve the problem entirely, though. Your idea about custom titles sounds good. Maybe even allow to mark "my current address".
