I was just wondering how to add a quantity box (along with Add to Cart button) on the catalog listings... along with the short description (let's say, 255 characters taken out of the full description with a "...read more" link for the rest or something like that)?

How could I go about doing that?

also, if I have an empty root level category, is there any way to manipulate its link to point to a specific node on my website instead of the default being hidden state?

just to revisit this last question - is there any way I can add a link/image to something totally irrelevant to ubercart on the main shopping cart page (/catalog), as in hard code it somewhere or something?

I just want to add another image and a link off the catalog page along with already existing images for catalog categories and such...

Or, redirect an empty category to a different page on the site somehow, by manipulating the database entry, code itself, whatever...
