Hi,

I've been messing with drupal for about 2 years already and I want to get into module development. My PHP is okay, but nothing too hardcore. I can get my way around, but I dont really know how API's work. Where and how should I start? I still do not understand drupal hooks, it seems to get mentioned everywhere. I have no idea what that means...

Buy yourself the Pro Drupal Development book (there are two, Drupal 5 and Drupal 6 - I'd start with Drupal 5).. and then work your way up to utilizing the Drupal handbooks. Also, since you have some PHP knowledge, it doesn't hurt to open up a .module file and look at the guts to try and figure out how it does what it does.

Those are the ways I've been learning, of course with help from the forums and IRC when needed.

There are drupal channels aplenty on freenode.

#drupal-support and #drupal-ubercart will probably be good resources for you.

I wish I had installed the Coder module sooner. That seems like an invaluable module to have, especially if you're learning (or still learning, in my case) Drupal coding standards. With enough reinforcement and reminders I should have it down soon enough Smiling
