Hey! Is there any talk of an UberCamp 2009? I remember discussing the possibility of something tacked on to DrupalCamp Colorado in June as a potential central location.

Just looking ahead to travel plans for summer and figured I'd stir the pot Smiling

Re: Ubercamp 2009?

As one of the Drupal Camp Colorado organizers, I'd be totally stoked with this idea. We've just nailed our venue, and will have the new camp website up soon.

Denver's a great town! Smiling

I'm in

To us, Ubercart is strategic to our Drupal implementations. We're in Colorado Springs and intend to again sponsor DrupalCamp Colorado.

That's as good an idea as any. I'm kicking it around with some folks, though at this point I have a scheduling conflict that could keep me from attending. But... you'll never find a time that's perfect for everyone, and I can always attend virtually if need be. Smiling

this is looking more and more likely...

Now that Ryan learned to read his calendar, it seems more likely Eye-wink

Part of what we need to do is dream about what the camp should be. We currently have space for 4 tracks inside of the building with a limit on people of 400. That should leave plenty of space for our anticipated camp levels (up to 250) and an Ubercamp (last one was 12 people, the DrupalCon Uberdinners are 100+ so...hard to predict) and a little spare room in case it's more popular than we thought. This would allow for the Ubercamp inside of DrupalCamp Colorado.

We can also get use of the venue on Monday if we want, to have that day more dedicated to Ubercart topics.

Thoughts?

Re: Ubercamp 2009?

w00t! I was gonna say, an Ubercamp without Ryan isn't much of an Ubercamp... so the scheduling conflict is no longer?

I would imagine that both info sessions and hands-on tutorials would be popular. Ryan's Advanced Ubercart session in DC was great, showing a variety of things that Ubercart can do beyond the basics.

Here are a few common topics that might make sense to address as mini-sessions:
- planning out your store (classes, attributes, etc.)
- advanced catalog/navigation building with Views
- event booking/ticket sales
- dealing with shipping options
- the business side of e-commerce
- SEO for Ubercart
- design/theming

I agree the attendance is hard to predict, so would a single Ubercart track parallel to the other sessions be possible? And a more freeform Ubercart hackathon/sprint on Monday?

Re: Re: Ubercamp 2009?

Hah, yeah, I looked at May and saw that the 27th / 28th were mid-week and figured it would be a no-go. However, I can more easily skip out on that Friday assuming I plan things well ahead of time. So, I'd be all for getting an Ubercart track filled up. I guess we'd need to know a little more of the format / schedule planned for the event so we can be sure to fill up the spots. I think it would also be great to have some free-for-all hacking time, especially since we'll hopefully be knee-deep in rewriting some of our relics around that time. I wouldn't be opposed to more sessions at the same time, though.

Also, I did have the most positive feedback for that Adv. Ubercart Usage session. It went a lot better than I would've expected, and there are plenty more of those sorts of sessions we could create. They're almost like live screencasts... plan a bunch of 10 - 15 minute demonstrations, take questions for another 5 - 10, and move on. I wonder if we could get away with several of these types of sessions manned by various people. Puzzled
