I am starting a new store, and it looks like the best solution to some of my particular problems would be Ubercart. I probably won't be up and running for a week or so, and I probably won't be dealing in a lot of product volume for a month as I ramp up.

From my (admittedly brief) perusal of the site, it sounds like Ubercart 2 for Drupal 6 is almost in a state where I could deploy. Should I deploy against Drupal 5, and then have to do (potentially) a bunch of upgrade work, or just bite the bullet and go Drupal 6?

Thanks.

Re: Should I go Drupal 6?

It really depends on your needs. If you discover (after doing some research) that most of the modules that provide the functionality you want are only available in D5, then you're probably better of sticking with the stable builds there. However, if the opposite is true (that you can find all functionality in D6 as well) then I would totally go that route.

Basically, if I had to start again, and I was starting now - and being a programmer myself - I would start with D6, hands down. And if there was anything that came across as needing to be updated I'd probably just update it myself, but thats not the route many people can go.

Anyways. My suggestion: go with D6. It rocks.

Re: Re: Should I go Drupal 6?

I am toying with a D6 upgrade and have just installed D6 for the first time on a test site.

I know that a Release Candidate is not a fully stable release.

My question is: How safe am I using Ubercart 2.0 RC2 on my fully operating commercial site with credit card transaction and the whole nine yards?

If RC2 is not safe yet, is it possible to run Ubercart 1.x on Drupal 6? That way I could just upgrade UC once 2.0 is released.

Thanks
Mike

1.x doesn't exist for Drupal 6. 2.x is the D6 branch, whereas 1.s is for D5.

And I think it's plenty safe, there are others using RC2 and 3 on live sites (a client of mine being one of them).

Thank you on the security reassurance. Of course I still respect that it is only a candidate and that I will use it at my own risk.

Thanks!

Thanks replicator222. I actually just built my very first D6 website for a friend and it is much improved over 5.x!
