Ubercart!

How is everybody doing? It may just be that none of you remember me however some of you may recall considering I was actively a member here during the early days of Ubercart. I was here before "the crash" of 2007! Har har. =D

Anyway I am glad to see that in my absence Ubercart not only still exists but is thriving, hopefully some of my support forum questions, solutions and pointless banter were useful before made obsolete. Ryan you look like Thomas Erak from The Fall of Troy now since you've let you hair grow out! Lyle I hope all is well with you and where ever you work right now, they don't pay you enough. =) I am excited to be designing one if not two new sites in the near future using Drupal with Ubercart and I am excited to hopefully spend more time helping the community here.

I am not going to lie to you guys, I had fallen to the darkside (Wordpress)::gasp:: for some time now and because it was less weight and more focused than Drupal; Wordpress fit the needs of my clients more during that time. Now I have two clients that are in the need for industrial strength eCommerce solutions, so direct me to the nearest tip jar and let's see if I can PBlaster to loosen up these rusty screws in my head!

P.S. True Story: The last guy I used Ubercart with Drupal to create an eCommerce experience for I almost put him out of business because of the plethora of work he had from his site! On a side note (and in his defense), he has gotten everything under control now and that may make for a third eCommerce site with Ubercart this year and counting!

Re: I'm baaaack!!

We remember you, and we're glad your back! Here at the church of Ubercart, we forgive all sinners, even those whom have strayed onto the path of Wordpress! Sticking out tongue
Cheers,
Andy

Re: I'm baaaack!!

hah, the coolest "I'm back" post on the site so far. Welcome back, and hopefully you can write another success story or two. I actually have a client whose sales also exploded once he converted to Ubercart, but fortunately his success was thanks to digital sales. Laughing out loud

Regarding that band dude... I have a running joke with a friend about us being in a hardcore band together, but I'm not the screamer. I play steel drum and do stupid things on stage while the music is playing. Evil

The Fall of Troy

@Andy - thanks for the warm welcome back! Glad you guys are forgiving lol.

@Ryan - Back in 2007 when I was 'in the scene' and listening to screamo & hardcore music I found The Fall of Troy floating around on the internet. Thomas is probably one of the most gifted guitar heros (hah) I have ever heard in my entire life (speaking of which I think one of their songs made it to the game) and he (at the time) wrote all the parts. He grew up as a jazz drummer and I believe his father was the drum tech from slayer or some crazyness. Either way he is a legend in my eyes, even if I have toned down my library of music to more of a Minus the Bear tempo.

On a side note I started doing front end development and design work for a fairly large corporation over the last few years (and absolutely love it!)but have seen a lot of user experience errors and believe that the usability for Ubercart is great.

I have been really getting into UX and UI lately because really when it comes down to it (especially for ecommerce sites), it's all about the customer experience. If the site doesn't 'look' safe that makes a difference to most people (and me) when making a purchase. Another thing I admire about some ecommerce setup's is that when you have a cart and get all the way to the end that is the best place to say, "Hey, we have all of your information now, why not make an account by giving us a password?". That works for me every time too because they are right, all my information to place the order is already there so why not make a username and password for the site?

I am rambling now please don't mind me; it is getting late and it's a Friday night, the gf is passed out next time and I think I am going to sit back and finish another chapter of Designing for the Web by Mark Boulton.
