I am sure someone is doing this, how do you provide your customers with a retail store locator? I would like to use google maps via the gmap module if possible but haven't nailed that one out. I am open to suggestions and may build this too. I know i said i was going to tackle quickbooks but that is not the priority with this client and i would like to keep them happy whenever possible....

thanks for your help guys

With some work with Location, Views, and the GMap module you can rig up a View that you can search by ZIP code. What you can do is create a new node type, Store Location, and have the Location module to attach a location to the Store Location node type (that lets you select a location via the Google Maps API). From there you need to create all the new nodes for each Store Location. All that would remain is create a view of Store Location node types with a search field by ZIP code.

A couple of warnings here; last time I tried the GMap Location module it was a bit buggy so I don't know if that has been fixed; also, this solution might be a bit hefty for you needs. I don't think it scaled well with our setup. I'll leave it to you to play around with the modules to see how they work.

Re: Re: Re: Retail Locatino

i did look into those modules and did not think it was the best or as clean as it could have been. I will post back once I get the display portion of my module built with a zip file for testing. I have some plans to allow clicks on the markers to have the directions come up via an on click but that is not official yet....it seemed like a nice thing but I don't know if it'll work yet. I need to still get the module to show the map after the user enters the zip but i don't know how yet...

Not sure if this will help but check out Openresort http://www.openresort.org You can use its business directory as a stand alone feature with out having to use the rest of its modules.
