hi
at the back of my mind i have heard and remembered that jasper reports is the number 1 open source solution for reports.

today, while looking at the word reports on my site plan page, i put jasper in front and just out of sheer blind luck or whatever you want to call it, i put 2 and 2 together and searched for drupal + jasper reports and came up with the following links:

http://drupal.org/project/query_export
http://jasperforge.org/sf/projects/drupal_bridge_for_jasperreports

i have never used jasper reports but i was wondering ... and i am still wondering at the possibilities it offers.
however, reports is currently not high on my priority list. my first priority is to get a working ubercart demo site up before i even look at reports.

i aim to at least try jasper reports + drupal when i get to that stage. so basically, this is just a note for anybody and all to think about it and open a discussion on the subject.

jasper reports can be found at http://www.jasperforge.org/sf/projects/jasperreports

I only spent a few minutes looking at Jasper, but it seems like a lot of overkill for what most people will want. It reminds me of Crystal Reports in that it appears to be a generic reporting module. The problem with generic reporting modules, in my experience, is that they are so difficult to figure out, that generating the report takes more time then the report is worth. Jasper might be a good solution for those people who want very unique flexible, and specific reporting, but I think we need some generic standard reports first. Again, I just glanced at Jasper. I would love for someone to prove me wrong.
Peace,
Andy
