Hi,

just few ideas (not sure if they can be implemented in Ubercart):

- individual hotels should add their rooms in directory. with periodic prices option !!
- a traveler makes "booking request" to check if a room in this hotel is available for a certain date. Hotels receive an email with the booking request and responds "somehow" if a room is available.
- if a room is available, traveler can proceed with booking confirmation (he gets a link for proceeding with the payment. the link is available only for a day or two, after that it expires)
- the payment is made directly to hotel owner (or to agency... whoever entered hotel details in portal).
- the portal owner gets the provision.

what do you think? It's a kind of shopping mall with small changes.

Re: Online Hotel Booking Portal

that sounds like a lot of work my friend. i haven't contribute code here myself, but your request appears to be an entirely different flavor of uc with a lot of extra functionality. especially the ability to tie into a real-time and EXTERNAL booking system for every hotel and mirror it in uc. the requirements are probably beyond what uc is or will ever be. i'll wait for the uc guys to chime in but you're getting this software free. you know that right?

Re: Re: Online Hotel Booking Portal

Thanks for your comment, druru. I know that, but I also know that withought ideas collected on this forum in the past and hard work of enthusiasts uc could not become as good as it is now.

In my post I haven't mentioned any real-time connection with external bookikng system. I had in mind only an email with booking request made by potential traveler looking for a cheap staying and a managing person in a hotel who receives that email (and checks manually if the room is free at the specific date or not).

To describe things simpler just let me write in 2 words: Shopping Mall.

Brief explanation:
- allow sellers (and not only uc admin) to list their products in the uc
- allow sellers to sell and buyers to buy this product (with cc)
- allow uc admin to set&get provisions

What about that?

I like the ideas and think there would be a good market, especially for booking and ticketing systems. I spoke with several folks at Drupalcon who were preparing projects dealing with hotel and event registrations and could use this functionality. Whether it's managed through a stock level on site or manually like zevs mentions, I think it would be a good addition or even install profile to have.

One thought about manual checking... you could let a customer checkout without submitting any payment details. This would in a sense let them check to see if a room is reserved. Then implement a way for them to enter CC data for payment after checkout if the room or ticket is available.

Ryan, you read my mind. This solution could be used not for checking hotel rooms but also for hiring a car, boat rentals, individual property rentals ecc. Checkout withought entering cc details (to let property owners know that there is a real person behind booking request email) and in addition a link where to pay with cc (if the property is marked free)... sounds exactly what users of such system will love.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Online Hotel Booking Portal

The spa owner I work for at one point expressed interest in developing our own web-based booking engine. It's similar to a hotel booking engine, and instead of "this room on this date" as a product unit, it will be "this therapist on this date, during this hour block". It's of course much more complicated and detailed than that... but it's mostly features that can be implemented from an existing shopping cart system.

OpenResort, which runs off of the Drupal e-commerce package, can handle a small hotel with just a few rooms, so I don't know if it's powerful enough for multiple therapists / specific hours of operation / types of therapists / breaks between appointments / etc. But if such a thing is to be developed for Ubercart, perhaps we can take some pointers from them (aka borrow their ideas)?

I know that salons and spas will eat up an open-source appointment booking solution like CAKE. My boss will, at least.

Just e-mailed them to see if they'll consider Ubercart integration. It remains to be seen if their solution would be flexible enough for what folks here are looking for, but I imagine we can always roll our own solution if need be.

Yes, it has been hotly debated!

Hi Ryan, yes, we've had several conversations about whether or not to move to Ubercart. It has a lot going for it, and we currently need to hack e-commerce enough to break it for non-accommodation "products". So, you can't currently have a site that sells both accommodation and guide books.

I'm probably not the best person to talk about the technical aspects of integrating with Ubercart (marcingy is), so I'll have a chat with him and follow up here.

From my point of view, Quickbooks integration is the killer feature that would help make up our minds...

Keep up the good work!

Re: Online Hotel Booking Portal

Does anyone know if there was anything done with bookings, as discussed in this thread?
If not I would appriciate any hints on how to start, my aim is a hotel booking system where you can book rooms or beds.

Re: Online Hotel Booking Portal

I know this is a rather old thread.. but I've not seen any newer ones discussing this functionality.

I'm about to begin working on some additional modules that will add some hotel booking and ticketing features to uberCart. More than likely I'll drop them into the contrib area when completed. These two issues are #1 on my list of tasks to complete currently, so one way or another these modules will definitely happen. Smiling
