I had an idea and am wondering if it's been done before:

THE PROBLEM
In a nutshell, I have a new online jewelry business and I'm trying to determine how much to charge for my product. Let's say raw materials for item X cost $10. I could spend $3 on marketing and charge $15 for the item, or spend $6 on marketing and charge $18. I'd like to optimize to determine which price point will yield the most sales.

THE SOLUTION
Use cloaking based on IP address to redirect customers to parallel versions of my website featuring product at different prices. For example, I could run an ad campaign in Canada, spending the $6 on advertising and charging $18. In the US, I'd spend less on advertising and charge less. Then I'd see which ad campaign produced more sales.

Does that make sense? Has it been done before? Is there an easier way to do this? Thanks!

Re: Cloaking to test different price points

I know it's been over a week, but...

Last comment there says it can be achieved using multiprice, and an ip detection module.
