Translation server up at http://l10n.privnet.biz

Hello all.

I have set up a site dedicated specially for translations, based on the Drupal l10n_server. The translations are kept syncronized between project versions, they can be exported as anonymous for any available version, for both Drupal 6 and Drupal 5 with the autolocale module. The translations are GPL.

The server still needs testings. For now I enabled the ubercart project alpha8 and beta1 versions for translation. The available languages for now are the hungarian and the romanian. If the testings work out fine, other projects and other languages could be added aswell.

The site is available at http://l10n.privnet.biz . Any help or feedback is welcome, also whatever is translated by now is freely available.

Alright... so at least it has a sense keeping it up... maybe it needs some more advertising to get all the translators work together. The Hungarian translation is almost done, after checking it again, I'll export and add to the contribs.

You can import po files, can't you? There's already been translations (mostly) done for Spanish and Catalan by miles28. He put the files in this thread. If nothing else, it gives us a chance to see if any work needs to be done since then.

Thanks miles28 and Lyle. I imported the Spanish translations and marked all of them with "Flag as suggestion for later discussion". Somebody speaking native Spanish should check them all, approve the good ones and correct the not ok ones. There are still many to translate as well, good luck by doing that.

Cool. Check for the translations which got suggestions waiting for approval, if they are correct, approve them, whichever is bad, delete and translate correctly...

Where can I find the beta2 .tgz file? I want to add it to the translation server... so far only alpha8 and beta1 is there. The server extracts the phrases directly from the original .tgz file, then no user errors can occur as a result of some bad template.

The beta2 and beta3 releases were added to the working directory. The existing translations are usable between versions, only the differences need to be translated for a certain language. More translators would be needed for those languages, where almost nothing is done. It is possible to import some, but native speakers should be checking.

For easier communication, I opened an irc channel on freenode.net, #translations, where discussions can happen live and faster. I'd be happy if somebody from the ubercart main team would hang around there, sometimes there are phrases to translate, where we just can't know the right meaning.

As group admin, you can moderate the translation, like users could translate and store everything only as suggestions and when reviewed by the group admin, they can be approved or denied. Also, moderated, the imported strings can be stored as suggestions only. It is up to you to keep the language open for translations directly or moderate and check yourself every phrase. The whole content needs checking anyway. I've set you as group admin of the Turkish language, you may need to re-login.

RAk, is that server of yours auto-generating the template files for export or is it relying on the .pot we ship? I haven't regularly been updating the .pot's during beta releases, so my hunch is it does it itself. If so, I'd love to just funnel anyone looking to do translation to your site (assuming you're going to be around for a while Eye-wink ).

Hey there.

The strings are extracted automatically with the potx module from the original .tgz package. When exporting, it uses the autolocale module's templating. I tend to be around a lot, also, the translations stay GPL.

Whoever wants to translate, just let me know about the wanted language. Also other projects can be added, like tapir, workflow-ng Eye-wink and so on... all usefull stuff, with a centralized way to translate.

Hi RAk,
We have started to translate to Turkish. But when i try to import we have faced with problems.
I have exported the tgz file named ubercart-tr-translations.tgz and extracted to local file system. When i try to import the ..\ubercart\uc_product\po\uc-product-module.tr.po i get the following error.

The translation file uc-product-module.tr.po contains an error: "msgstr" was expected but not found on line 489.

po.file-----------------------------------
#: uc_product/uc_product.module:2161
msgid ""
"There is @count node of this type. It will be converted to the Product node type. "
msgid_plural ""
"There are @count nodes of this type. They will be converted to the Product node type"

#: uc_product/uc_product.module:202 <---- This is the line number 489
msgid "administer products"
msgstr ""

#: uc_product/uc_product.module:202
msgid "administer product classes"
msgstr ""

#: uc_product/uc_product.module:202
msgid "administer product features"
msgstr ""
po.file-----------------------------------

I try to add msgstr line like msgstr "" to line 489 but at that time i get the following error.

The translation file uc-product-module.tr.po contains an error: "msgstr" is unexpected on line 488.
So do you have any idea ?

And on the other hand. On exporting the traslation i got just compressed one file. But has lot of directory within. And many module based .po files. So importing all .po files ise very boring process. Is there any other shorter way to import the hole file at once ?

I know about this minor problem, I'll fix it, also tomorrow I will add the export to one file option, so then no autolocale would be needed anymore, you will get one single file instead of the split-up autolocale scheme. Continue doing the translations, the server still needs testings to be done, but it's better day by day.

The translation export issue is fixed now, thanks to goba, the l10n server maintainer. There are options for exporting in the following formats:

- Drupal 6 package format
- Drupal 5 package format for autolocale module
- Flat package for CVS commit
- All in one file

Also, users should match their own version of ubercart, otherwise the export could be wrong. Be sure to choose the right release before exporting.

Testing and feedback is welcome.

try creating one single .po export file
---------------------------------------
I don't know if the problem is gone by this fix. Be careful with huge .po files, the importing server needs resources, if there are problems, the memory size in the php.ini might need to be increased.

Hi RAk,
The one file pack .po file is fine.

I want to report two things.
1) The size 255 of the locale field is not enough. Needs to be increased.
2) Still the export file has prular problem.

* user warning: Data too long for column 'location' at row 1 query: UPDATE locales_source SET location = ' payment/uc_2checkout/uc_2checkout.info:0; payment/uc_authorizenet/uc_authorizenet.info:0; payment/uc_credit/uc_credit.info:0; payment/uc_cybersource/uc_cybersource.info:0; payment/uc_payment/test_gateway.info:0; payment/uc_payment_pack/uc_payment_pack.info:0; payment/uc_paypal/uc_paypal.info:0' WHERE source = 'Ubercart - payment' in D:\xampp\htdocs\drupalinitial\includes\database.mysql.inc on line 172.

1) To bypass the following sql error i increase the locale field in locales_source table. I am not sure whether this is the right way !

# The translation file ubercart-5.x-1.0-beta3-tr.po contains an error: "msgstr" was expected but not found on line 3409.

#: uc_attribute/uc_attribute.module:407
msgid "There is 1 product with this attribute. "
msgid_plural "There are @count products with this attribute. "

2) It seems that the plural problem is still available. Here is the line 3409.
The msgstr[0] "" line is missing.

freakalis is the group admin. feel free to import the already existing translations, also, if something would be missing, translate. bakyildiz: for now correct it manually, I'll talk with goba for a fix, but I still think the formula issue is the one leading to those problems, Plurals worked fine with hungarian, where there is only one form of plural.

Also there is a problem while traslating any plural type message on i10n server.
In edit mode i filter the "There is 1 product with this attribute" message, but could not see the textbox for translation. Please check the attaced image for clear understanding.

Note that, I checked the definition part of the exported Hungarian .po file and see a line as follows at line 32. "Plural-Forms: nplurals=2; plural=(n!=1);\n" which is not availabel in Turkish exported .po file.

bakyildiz: great work... so finally I figured what was different. As I said, I'd need to correct gettext .po plural formula for Turkish. Now I've set the number of plurals to 2 editboxes and the formula to (n!=1) as it is in hungarian, but I know that some languages have other way for it. Check if it works fine now...

slovak plurals fixed
--------------------
Check if all is ok, I added 3 for number of plurals and this formula: ($n==1) ? 1 : ($n>=2 && $n<=4) ? 2 : 0

Please set fromula as I send you. Your formula is not correct and Drupal cannot parse it on import. These () are necessary.

Hi RAK,

I noticed when exporting PO files that the file general.de.po is not exported in UTF-8 Format but in Some Iso format, I have to change that into Utf-8 to get german umlauts imported correctly, do you have any means to change the export Format of that File

Hi. I exported all, opened up in KBabel and a text editor (kwrite), all the German characters looked ok. The default encoding was also UTF-8, as it is in the header of the export file. Can you make a screenshot with details how it looks on your side ?

The caracters are showing up correctly but somehow Poedit is recognizing this one file as beeing encoded ISO though it is utf-8

I can live with that so nevermind. I just have to change it to utf-8 before uploading because other wise I get new suggestions breaking at the first special char. But that seems just to happen if Poedit saveed the file without me telling it to use utf-8. maybe a bug in poedit...

Thanks for investigating

yes that would be a possibility... but on the other hand I noticed that a few times... and the total number of terms to translate is staying very constantly at 3061 so I guess there is some deletion going on.

-------------------------------
There is a problem on rescanning the packages, the translations are vanishing, that is a fact. It happens now and then, we didn't find yet the problem. Until solved, I suggest exporting every day once and if it happens importing back. I do so with the Hungarian, that's why you can see the number of strings changing.

Hello,
I'd like to help on the Romanian translation, 'cause i need it for a project. So what should i do to start translating the strings ?
Thanks

Steps to start translating:

1. Register at http://l10n.privnet.biz
2. Join the group for your Language (if there is no group ask rak here to create it)
3. Now on the translation page you can export an tar.gz with all the po files for your language you can use the tool of your joice to translate them, I like poedit under windows others use kbabel under Linux or just a Text editor.
4. Import the po file by uploading it at the import screen. If you don't check the mark as sugestion box new Strings from you will get into the translation. Strings you changed will be marked as suggestion an will require someone to aprove them (depending on the Settings on your language you can do that yourself on the edit screen)

as an alternative to 3 and 4 you even can start translating on the edit screen which is pretty easy but not that fast.

5. Try to communicate with your other group members to prevent double work

That should be it.

If you don't want to use a .po editor...

1. Register at http://l10n.privnet.biz
2. Join the group for your Language (if there is no group ask rak here to create it)
3. As logged in, go to the 'Translate' menu entry
4. Choose a project in your language, then choose 'Edit'
5. Make a selection for Status: Untranslated, then Filter
6. In the edit boxes type in the translated text, it will be stored as a suggestion, then the group manager can accept it
7. Be sure you click the 'Save translations' button at the end of the page.
8. Try to communicate with your other group members to prevent double work, using the messages/comments under the 'Group' menu...

That should be it.

Spuky: thanks for formulating this Smiling

All groups got moderated
--------------------------------
Hi all. I moderated all the groups, since I got complaints about good translations beeing overwritten with wrong ones. Since I can't know all the languages, this is the only way I can help the admins. From now on, the admin have to approve the suggestions.

I don't see any option on the translate menu for versions select

The contributors are translating strings that appears only on older version.

Is there a solution?

version selection is usable when exporting the strings

...and it is available when doing so. Also, when translating a string, it is shown which packages would use it.

Requesting Portuguese - Portugal; (pt-pt) .

Btw, how long does it take for the translations made here to be added to the Ubercart module ?
Or is that only going to happen on 1.0 final version ?

The answer to my own question.
You chose at first the project with no language selection.
After on the project page you choose the language.
After you have the choice of the version to select for the work.
That is because i don't need to approve or translate strings from older versions.
Is that right or not ?

Portuguese Portugal was added
---------------------------------------------
Hi. I added the group (pt-pt). Subscribe to it, then send me a message, so I would give you the group admin rights for it. Also the taxonomy term was added for pt-pt, in case of wanting to publish story type pages. The translations are imported using the drupal localization module, it is not standalone, but when translations would be finalized, they will be packed up as .po files in the releases. As for 1.0 final version, sooner or later Smiling the main developers are on vacation right now... they deserve that Eye-wink

The translation strings are shared between versions
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't give much importance for translating for a certain version only, the strings which are done for a release, those are reused for all the other releases. As for you case, it matters only when you export the strings, then you should choose the right version both for drupal and the release.

I use ff under debian lenny, I didn't encounter any kind of trouble lately. Freezing was caused in 2.0.0.11 by a flash player addon, but since I upgraded, the issue ain't happening anymore.

Hallo!

Wie kann ich denn nun die Übersetzung installieren? Ich kann dazu in meiner Ubercartinstallation nirgendwo etwas finden Wo ist die Übersetzungsdatei, und wo binde ich diese dann ein? Bei dem Drupal-Übersetzungsmenüpunkt, oder hat Ubercart da eine eigene Einstellung innerhalb der Ubercartoptionen?

Hello,
I just subscribed to the pt-pt group.

I'm not sure if there's already an admin there, but already I translated and placed around 150 suggestions so far, and will probably continue to do so according to my spare time.

I needed pt-pt a lot, so I hope other users that wished for pt-pt translation can also help contribute and speed-up the translation, so that we can all enjoy having this ready for use.

Um grande bem haja!

No, I still don't have any live site yet. I'm working on two.

One for a biomedic reactives and equipment seller. Here I've had to tweak things a bit since the owner doesn't want prices on it. Reason? He has 4 levels of prices, depending on the quantity and regularity of the purchase --small occasional; small regular; big occasional, and big regular customers. So, the checkout is really a quotation.

The other site will be sort of an intranet for a small heavy duty electrical equipment business, so it won't be publicly accesible. The owner knows he is being robbed, but he is not sure by whom. Of course his main suspicions goes to the warehouse personnel, but there are also chances that a seller or two might be involved.

So Úbercart actually will be used as a stock control. With a day-by-day control, which only the owner will know about and use, he wants to pinpoint where and how the skimming occurs.

It will be used to submit packaging instructions based on the customers order (which is taken by e-mail, phone or fax). The seller fills in the order in the regular way, just as he is the customer (only here I changed "Name" for "Seller"), and the order instructions goes to the warehouse.

I'm not really sure this will do, but the business still gets a stock control.

Thanks for asking!

Hi,

I would like to participate in the portuguese translation.

I think i asked it before, but my post disappeared from this thread.

Also, i dont seem to be able to login with my Drupal.org account on the l10n.privnet.biz server. It says "Sorry, that is not a valid OpenID. Please ensure you have spelled your ID correctly."

Drupal.org accounts are valid OpenID's right ??

Edit:
When increasing text size (on Firefox), the last part of the thread just dissapears. Starting around my first post. Weird.

No... OpenID is something else
------------------------------------------------------
drupal.org supports OpenID too, but for details check out openid.net, having a d.o. account doesn't mean you got OpenID. If you register on http://l10n.privnet.biz (or if you get an OpenID, you can use that too), I will give you the admin rights for the pt-pt group. As with the threads, all works fine here, nothing is missing, but I checked with firefox and the default font settings only.

Hi RAk,

I found a Hungarian translation lying on the web

http://www.weganet.hu/ubercart_forditas

This seems to be different than the one on the translation server, perhaps the two can be merged somehow.

Hey.

We already imported once some translations from there, then we spent a lot of time correcting them. It contains some mistakes, but the biggest problem is being outdated (it's still usable for older versions). If somebody has time to check the translations and import the good ones, I'd be happy Eye-wink

Hi everybody. I've checked the translations for all the languages, where there are suggestions. I was amazed, there are thousands of suggestions, which weren't checked at all by the group admins. I kindly ask to do so. If there are co-admin requests for any language, in case of the current admin not having time to handle denying or approuving the translations, let me know, I will grant the rights then.

I added 6.x-2.0-beta3 to the translation spool
------------------------------------------------------
Many people plays around with the 6.x branch, so I think sooner or later we'll have to focus on some heavy translating. The 6.x branch contains lots of marker errors, before a final release those should be corrected as well.

Thanks for the error list, rak. I think the catalog one should be fixed (made an issue), but I'm not sure what to do about the watchdog errors... All watchdog is doing is taking that variable argument and passing it through t() itself, so I don't see why it should choke on us passing a variable in in the first place, esp. if that variable is translated appropriately by t() to begin with.

I had posted an issue about that, but Gábor replied with a good explanation about why watchdog() should only be given the untranslated (that is, English) error messages. Basically, for watchdog messages, we don't know what language to translate into when we call watchdog(). It's not until Drupal has to display them are they translated.

And since people are going to try to do silly things like I did in that issue, that warning will probably not go away. I think we just have to accept the error and move on when we store error messages from 3rd party systems. Either that, or provide a giant library of all error messages as literal strings whenever we want to put them in watchdog(). Sticking out tongue

We had some pretty heavy discussion about the translation server at l10n.privnet. at a German local Group. I was several times accused by guy caled Narres that l10n.privnet lost Ubercart translation suggestions during March 2008 and January 2009. (This was the time no group admin was present) I could testify that the 600 suggestions I have approved in January / February did not inlcude any translations of this guy.

during that discussion the founders of the biggest German Drupal community site put it up somethin like that "they don't know that server, so why da hack should they translate there..." or more like "they are not in control, therefore no translations and work will be carried out." I guess it's pretty the same everywhere.

In common I put it like that: National interessets before global community.

Isn't it possible to have the translation server run at ubercart.org . like l10n.ubercart.org ?

l10n.ubercart.org is ok, but l10n.drupal.org would be the best
------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't mind if somebody makes a central ubercart translation server, but I don't think that the existing translator community would move there from a day to the other. As for the other guy, there were no major downtimes or losses, l10n.privnet.biz is a pretty stable place. Sometimes duplicate suggestions were deleted by me, since several people re-imported as suggestion the same strings from different files. I will keep up l10n.privnet.biz for other projects too, so even if ubercart will have their own, the rest of the projects stay. I wish drupal.org would host a central translation server for all the existing projects, because of the main Drupal community they already have, also many strings could be reused in several different projects too. But for now, I stick to this l10n.privnet.biz, since it's the only one, which I can control Smiling
