Importing stuff from the Translation server

Hi,

I'm using Drupal 5 and Ubercart RC4.

Today i did some work on the Translation server at http://l10n.privnet.biz , namely on the Portuguese part of it. There's still lots of stuff to translate but i wanted to import what is already done into my own Ubercart test site.

And so I went to http://l10n.privnet.biz/translate/languages/pt/export and exported both

"Drupal 5 package format for autolocale module" and "All in one file".

"All in one file" seemed perfect because i could import everything at once. But it didnt work, i mean, it dint import everything.

So now i'm using the other export, which basically has 500 thousand folders in it (one folder for each module) and i have to import one by one .po file .

Is this supposed to work this way?

Am i doing something wrong?

Importing from one file exported works fine and it is the fastest possible, since no other modules are needed for install... As for autolocale, use the autolocale module, but I still suggest one file at once, less hassle.
Also, be sure you use your language for localization as default, if English is left default, don't expect any translation strings.

What autolocale ?
Do you mean the Localization module ?

I have that and i18n.

As for not working, what i meant was, the import of the "one file has everything" went well but when i went to check, lots of stuff were not translated (some was, some not).

But after importing file by file by file (for all the modules), all the stuff i expected to be translated was in fact translated.

Ok, i tried again.
Downloaded the "one .po file" but the same is happening.

The first time it said:

The translation was successfully imported. There are 2000* newly created translated strings and 400* strings were updated.

* - cant recall exact numbers.

Then i imported the same file again and it said:

The translation was successfully imported. There are 2302 newly created translated strings and 517 strings were updated.

And again i imported the same file and it said:

The translation was successfully imported. There are 2302 newly created translated strings and 517 strings were updated.

But still, some of the stuff i know i have translated is still coming up in English when viewing the Portuguese version of the site.

There are 3378 source strings in total, for all the 11 releases. Out of those, for pt-pt there are translated 521 strings only, the ones you get as being updated, the rest remain in English. Some strings are repeating, with different punctuations, so the already translated feeling exists, but those are still different strings. Anyway, I investigate the import/export, if there is a bug, it must be hunted Eye-wink

Why dont you try importing the Portuguese translation into your own Ubercommerce and see what happens?

If you see lots of untranslated stuff on the Review Order page (for example), that's the problem.

don't mix it the input type strings with the translations...

Those strings, that you talk about, can be set in the ubercart settings pages, as input types. It tricked me too at first, but after a fast sql search in all tables I figured that those are values from forms, you will have to set those manually.
600 translations is nice work, if you find other people interested into helping, tell them to subscribe to the pt-pt group, for no it's only you and Leo.

Have you tried what i'm saying?

I'm talking about stuff that when importing the "one file" does not get translated but when i import "file by file" it does get translated.

I cant really put it more simple than this.

730+ strings by the way! Smiling

On the translation server export page it says:

"It is not advised to use big .po files for importing in Drupal though, as it might lead to incomplete imports. Use packages for usage with Drupal importing."

I wonder what is considered big. The ubercart-5.x-1.0-rc4-pt.po export file is 350 Kb. Is this big and why i'm getting incomplete imports?

And what about the autolocale module. How does it work? Care to explain ?

I have also noticed then some strings never come translated, no matter what.

I think these are what you refer as "input types".

Namely:

Continue shopping button

Review order button

Submit order button

Why i cant have these links/buttons translated?
I mean i translate them on the Localization / Manage translations are of my Drupal site, but they always come up in English.

And i can see that some fields are translated, even while browsing the administration pages.

For example on Notification settings > Order update (/en/admin/store/settings/notify/edit/update) the subject and body fields show different content while browsing on English and Portuguese (my two languages).

But Notification > Checkout (/en/admin/store/settings/notify/edit/checkout) does not. The email subject fields always show in the same language. It's like the string there cannot be translated or sumthing.

Well my last posts on this thread are not exclusively related to the translation server. They have more to do with Ubercart it self.

I hope to call the attention of the devs, because these little things make it difficult to have a 100% multilangual site.

There have been other discussions regarding the customizable button texts and things... it's just something we can't deal with until we start working on 2.0. There have been fixes posted elsewhere, I think including the i18n module and modifying your settings.php. I think kulvik also posted the process for making a hack to make these buttons translatable, but I don't remember where. Sticking out tongue
