I am proud to announce that www.oldskoolindustries.com is finally live!

My client is a Volkswagen specialty shop that sells parts online; his last osCommerce web site was lack luster so doing some research I finally decided to create something based around Drupal and Ubercart. Drupal allowed me to work with a theme package that I felt like I was in control with, and Ubercart just fit perfectly into the groove for e-commerce.

This site is being redirected at the moment because the host told me that Drupal 5.2 and PHP5 were not compatible; knowing I could get this working I talked to a friend who worked at www.jaywebdesigns.com and said sure we have Drupal 5.2 and PHP5 working here already. I joined and am now in the process of figuring out how to mask the domain correctly.

Either way this site was originally created on Drupal 5.2 and Ubercart Alpha7b; due to hosting issues I decided to move to a new host and along with it the SQL database. This was a first for me as I have never done this; everything uploaded fine, I was able to access Drupal again right away. I was able to successfully move Drupal's database to a new host and upgrade Ubercart to Alpha7c at the same time with absolutely no issues what so ever.

I am very happy with this site and can not wait to see it grow. I want to thank Ryan, Lyle and everyone else who helped me out on the forums to get this site rolling!

Excellent site! Glad to

Excellent site! Cool Glad to see you got it up and I hope it works out well for ya. I'm definitely digging the theme. Did you start from any other one or was this a total custom job?

Thanx Ryan

Thanks, if anybody is wondering the site is down because we are changing the domain name to point to the new host; hopefully this comes back within 24 hours.

The theme is 100% designed by me using PHPTemplate; I can not tell you how long I had been waiting to find a content management system like Drupal that I can design something in photoshop or otherwise and make it work with amazing precision. I came I saw, I decided to start from scratch because thats how I like to do things.

Re: Re: back up!

Thanks Rich, I have a few more ideas floating around my head for new designs, this one is on 1.2 so I may upgrade the current one a few more times before I create something new. Oldskool Industries is like my scratching post at this point, I am great friends with the owner who is just an amazing character.

It's great when you get a client that you can relax a little with, have a laugh and that. Your design skills are very sharp. Where are you based, UK by any chance?

Thanks again.

Thanks again Rich,

Unfortunately I am from New Jersey and not the UK (however a change of scenery may be at hand). Thanks again for the compliment, I have been doing web design since I was 15-16 so I have about 7 years experience and have seen many things come and go. I fell in love with CSS after running into CSS Zen Garden and have expanded my knowledge in CSS 10 fold since.

I have found my passion in life; and a service that I could wake up and do everyday of my life and enjoy. How long have you been doing web development?

Re: Thanks again.

HI kaizen, I've been doing web design/development for 1 year, 1 month Smiling. I have a few sites up (time for a shameless plug):

www.freestylesystems.co.uk (my web design company site - built using drupal 4.7 - in need of a revamp when I get the time)
www.inktin.com (my first client site - built using oscommerce)
www.vibrotech.freestylesystems.co.uk (my latest client site - built using drupal - not yet live but will be by 31st October due to a deadline)
www.candmflowers.co.uk (my mum's flower shop - custom built since it's only one page)

I have another 2 in the pipeline. One of them is built with drupal/ubercart, they are selling toyota starlet car parts and will hopefully be live soon (although the client is a nightmare, bless him).

I too wake up everyday and enjoy my job. The only problem is dealing with clients who want things changed again and again. At the end of the day, I've just started so I do need to put as much effort into these sites as possible and if the continual tweaking makes for a better site then so be it. Laughing out loud

When I started just over a year ago I didn't come to it with any background knowledge. I've just had to dig in and learn everything I can in a short a time as possible. I use HTML/CSS/JS/XML(thanks Lyle)/PHP/MySQL and my editor of choice is TextMate. I use the terminal/command line a lot too (ssh/mysql/mysqldump/scp/tar/chmod/open).

I used to do music (dance music mainly, breaks/trance/ambient) but that wasn't making me any money. I got sacked from a job and needed to find a way to make a living. Since I've been using computers for music for over 10 years I tried to think of something I could do with the computer and came up with this!

Nice

It is always interesting to see what people come up with when they are new to the field, I can see through your different pages, the steps that you took in design and how it makes sense with when you came into the field. I love it! =D

I have been working for www.safehavenpc.com for about 4 years coming up however due to finishing college this fall semester I took the time off from working there and decided to work on school work primarily this semester. Working there I have learned a lot about personal computers in general, I designed the web site (::cough:: about 2-3 years ago) and if I had known about Drupal then I would have used that as my background for it as they need to update it weekly due to price changes, and doing the HTML everytime is just time consuming.

Other sites I have up at the moment are my father’s site www.spiritrhythms.com which is something I created again years ago and is due for updating but has to do with his blog. Another site is www.njpooltableservice.com which won web page of the month from Jay Web Designs. That was a fun design, I learned problem solving skill from working at Safe Haven which I am infinitely thankful for as I decided considering what the client wanted to create a pool table in photoshop and just place all his information on the page.

I just ran into my first web sites I created when I was 15-17 the other day and I was pleased that I have all the files intact. My very first web page when I was 15 was created for Dragonball Z (the TV series) and had the most information that I had produced in the form of content then any other page I had made for years after. Most were design changes of a personal site; my handle on the internet was phun-ky at the time which makes me laugh now.

Again I like where you are going with your business, it looks like it is working out great for you and I hope the best for you!
