We are going to have recurring subscriptions where realtors pay a monthly fee but will also have a fluctuating fee on top of that based on how many listings they have.

So I need to be able to bill arbitrary amounts to existing customers which is why I've enabled CIM. It is creating the CIM account correctly but I'm disappointed that Authorize doesn't have an interface for billing using CIM.

I see you can bill an existing subscriptions by doing process card but then that makes the subscription have a negative balance. What does a negative balance mean exactly? Does that affect how the card is billed next billing cycle or is that just there for reference? Seems confusing. Like if you process a $10 transaction and the monthly rate is $35 which they've paid, so you have -$10 balance does that mean it bills $25 next time? Bc that's not what I want.

Regardless I wish I was able to create a new order for a customer using that CIM profile. Is that possible? I've been trying to do that but I haven't been able to create an order without knowing the credit card info.

OK I think I see how this works

If I click edit I can add new line items or products. So for my business problem I would create a line item every month that says "may 2009 listing billing" - $10 or whatever and then if I also bill them that amount then the balance becomes $0.

That seems ok, still a very manual process if we have a bunch of realtors.
