Can someone point out to me where they've gotten the information for the various sales tax rates throughout NY state? My question isn't about Ubercart itself, really - I think we've got that down.

What I can't find is how to determine what county a city is in, which is apparently the only proper way to calculate the appropriate sales tax. (According to the folks I spoke to at NYS Dept of Tax.)

Is there a database available cross-referencing zip codes with counties? I think that's all I need, but I'm not sure.

I can tell you this, that NY is just a complete awful mess in this department.

I run an OSCommerce site which has a module which implements such a thing: http://addons.oscommerce.com/info/2792

Now, it in itself won't be any help, BUT it has a big SQL file that lists the rates, which would be useful to anyone developing a module.

(Also, NB: this list isn't absolutely complete, but it is close--I found a couple of zips that I had to add manually).

Hi,

I am working on an e-commerce site in New York City using Ubercart. I am just diving into the taxes now. Did you ever get a solution to this?
