Hey all,
I am about to start building a site with Ubercart2, and I'm not sure what the best way to divide it into sections is. Here's the story:

  • It has 4 major sections
  • Each section has a totally different theme
  • There's no product overlap between the sections
  • Products from any section should all end up in the same cart
  • Single checkout/signin/account for everything
  • If you've ever bought anything from the Gap/Banana Republic/Old Navy family of sites, that's the kind of experience the client wants -- 4 different stores that all lead to a single cart and checkout

Originally I was thinking about using Sections because it seemed like an easy way to go -- use taxonomy and pathauto to make all of the urls like "store.com/sectionA/product1", "store.com/sectionA/product2" and then base the theme on the "sectionA", "sectionB", and so on. Also it seems like there's no trickiness using Ubercart with Sections because it is all just one site.

But today I read about Domain Access! And it is so fancy, and would allow different domains for each section of the site! But then I would also need shared sign-on and it looks like there's a bit of fiddling to get Ubercart (and maybe also SSL?) working across domains. But it is so fancy!

Tell me your stories: do you use Domain Access? It is awesome? Or is it tricky and offers no real benefits for my situation? On the one hand I don't want to end up using something overly-complex just because it is nifty. But on the other hand I know the multiple domains thing was something my client thought would be really cool. Is it worth it??!

Thanks for any thoughts!
