I've searched the forums and documentation, but I'm still confused... I'm able to process credit cards using the Test Gateway, but I'm not sure how to proceed from here. I need to integrate my client's PayPal premium account (currently affiliated with eBay), also an Authorize.net merchant account from the client's former brick & mortar store. I have not yet enabled the PayPal or Authorize.net modules.

I'm currently testing all this on my development site on a shared web host and wondering if I'll be able to test the PayPal and Authorize.net there or do I need to wait until it's on my live site? Can someone help me out please? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Credit Card is working with Test Gateway - what do I do next

Yup, just enable the authorize and paypal modules on your development site, set the appropriate settings under Store Configuration -> Payment settings. So long as you have curl installed on your dev machine it should work fine.

PayPal SandBox or Live For Testing?

Thanks for replying. I'm still waiting for merchant information for setting up authorize.net, so I decided to get PayPal going. I enabled the PayPal module today and updated my secure pages to include some of the uc_paypal pages. I'll be using WPS, so I'm wondering if I need to use the PayPal sandbox for testing it?

I would definitely use Sandbox. Otherwise you'll get charged for making live credit card transactions while you're testing and you'll have to void them.

I find it much easier to test with live transactions than to use the Sandbox, because the Sandbox has a lot of idiosyncrasies and doesn't work exactly like live transactions anyway.

PayPal Live For Testing?

Thanks again. Two totally different opinions. It just goes to show that everyone has their own preferences.

Could you give me a few more details on testing live? Can it be tested without having it actually post to an account? After I select PayPal and hit submit, what information will I need to provide to test it out?

PayPal Testing

Found the same issue with sandbox.

You will have to use an account that is different from your PayPal account info. ie. email, address, etc. If they are the same, PayPal will send back a message that you can not pay yourself.

Once it connects and you get to the PayPal screen fill in the required information (CC number, address, etc). Then if it all works, just cancel the transaction or if you desire to have it processed, the go into your PayPal account and cancel there.

However, once you get transfered to PayPal and the products and costs are listed you have a pretty good idea that it will work.

If nothing else, ask a friend to buy something to test the email notifications. Then refund that purchase.

Enjoy your PayPal testing.....

Credit Card is working with Test Gateway - what do I do next?

Testing it live was so easy it was almost scary. I canceled it a few times after I got transferred to PayPal, but finally got up the nerve to let it go all the way through by ordering 2 test items with flatrate shipping costs overriding the default. Everything went through just fine and the order status shows "Payment received". After all the bumps in the road I've hit along the way, it's sure nice to have something finally go smoothly. Thanks everyone!

Now, on to trying to get Authorize.net working... maybe I can convince my store owner to use only PayPal Smiling
