Hi everyone. I'm in a right pickle and I'm pretty new to ubercart so struggling a little now...

I need ubercart to use the credit card payment method with no gateway, the idea is to use a manual streamline machine once someone places an order. To do this I'm guessing I need to find a way of retrieving the credit card data? Or having it email to me or something? But obviously keeping it secure???

I've tested it with 41111111111 etc and it all works, says its gone through etc but I don't want it to go through a virtual terminal. . . I hope this makes sense - am completely confuzzled!

Thanks everyone

Jen

Re: Urgent Help Credit Card Settings!

I'm not an expert, but I know one thing you'll have to be concerned with is encryption. I think you can get in trouble for having unencrypted customer cc#s lying around an inbox.

Could you use the COD method instead and then contact the customer via phone for cc info when filling the order?

Hey Jen, as the other poster mentioned, holding onto CC data is going to be against card industry standards and in most cases could leave you liable for fraudulent transactions. Ubercart doesn't really support this sort of payment, as we don't want anyone to be in that situation (and we wouldn't want to put our CC data on a site that was holding onto it). It will be a lot easier to change your business model than it will be to develop a secure storage system that meets the requirements of the card industry.

Hi, thanks for letting me know i was trying the impossible Smiling

Do you have any ideas on which are the most cost effective payment gateways? It will probably be a few large transactions (hundreds maybe thousands) rather than regular small amounts.

thanks everyone even if it was bad news it's at least a step forward!

the credit card module is really just for use in development - as it's not plugged into a gateway you can get through checkout using it. It definitely shouldn't be used in a production environment. My rule of thumb is if your monthly volume sales are $1k a month or less then something like PayPal is the most cost effective option. Anything over this an you're better off $-wise with a payment gateway like Authorize.net.
