Every once in a while on our site (at least once a week) random products will pop up in the cart block not put there by the customers. The cart block is also viewable to anyone who visits the site (not logged in), listing these random items in their cart. If you log in however, the cart goes empty. It's weird, and I would assume off putting to our customers.

Our IT guy thinks the block is showing what an anonymous customer put in their cart, but did not buy. Then that information somehow gets put universally in everyone's cart block, thus confusing other customers. We clear the cache, and that sweeps it out, but this is of course after the problem has occurred.

Anyone seen this before, or have an idea of how to deal with it?

Just take off the anonymous users

Why don't you just have the anonymous users option disabled. And make them register when they click on "buy" in your site?

Not sure I know what you mean. At present, you can go to the site, and put things in your cart though you are not logged in. But, if you want to check out, you have to create a login and password. This is pretty standard. Our problem is that it seems it can sometimes display an anonymous user's (abandoned?) cart to everyone. I don't see this being an isolated thing with Ubercart and our website.

Check your permissions, you can lock down the site as tight as you desire. On the new site I am building the only thing new customers can see is the front and the option to log in or create a new user. Just simply go to yoursite//admin/user/permissions. Adjust there to your desire.

Thanks, however we are trying to attack the possible bug issue itself. Unfortunately stopping possible customers from digging deeper into the site without logging in won't work for the type of site we have. In fact, it might not just be the case that they are anonymous, but also logged in users that did not check out. The main point being someone's cart contents are being universally displayed to anyone visiting the site, which is a problem.
