Hi,

I'm not using the UPS module to get quotes (I'm just using a basic flat rate for the customer), but I would like to use UPS for shipping. I'm not sure I quite understand what functionality is built in to the UPS shipping module at this point though.

Should I be able to print shipping labels and get tracking #'s for each order so that customer's can track their orders online?

If I go to ship packages and select UPS (instead of ship manually), I can enter shipping information. Submitting the form results in a "Hard Error 250003: Invalid Access License number"

I noticed in this thread:

http://www.ubercart.org/forum/ideas_and_suggestions/466/usps_print_labels

that Lyle mentioned the module was originally setup to use the UPS premium service, but that he was going to change it to the standard UPS tool. Perhaps that hasn't been done yet? Is that the problem I'm having, or is it something else?

Thanks for your help.

Re: UPS shipping labels and tracking info

Getting shipping labels and tracking numbers from the UPS webservice is the premium tool that had been used previously to get quotes. The UPS quote method now uses the RateServiceSelection tool which just about anybody can use. The Shipping tool requires a separate application, which I think just lets UPS make sure you won't break their system.

Now that I'm thinking about the certification process, I think the UPS module still needs some features before you can be certified. I'll be working on that shortly.

Okay, I think I understand. I saw that premium tool on the UPS website, and it does look like it requires some pretty high volumes...

So if I understand you right, adding support for shipping labels and tracking numbers without requiring the premium tool may be added at some point as you work on these new features?

No, getting shipping labels requires the use of the premium webservice. I don't remember if the tracking numbers are or not, but when I add them in, I'll let you know.

Re: Re: Re: Re: UPS shipping labels and tracking info

Thanks for the clarification. Sorry to be slow about this, but I'm new to dealing with shipping and I can see it's rather complicated...

Does anyone have advice for a store without the 50 package per day minimum UPS requires for the premium tool? We'd like to get the shipping info out of Ubercart and onto the package, and the tracking info into the users account. Should we just "ship manually" and copy the address by hand to the UPS website, then copy the tracking number over to Ubercart? Or should we consider switching to USPS or FedEx? What do most people find works well?

Thanks for any advice.

Has there been any updates on this? Such as the ability to print shipping labels from the web interface if you have the key from ups?

Re: Re: UPS shipping labels and tracking info

I've been able to get labels from the test environment for a while now. Just go through the packages and shipping tabs on the order page.

I'm always paranoid about the server setting, so I check to make sure it's still in Test mode so a UPS guy doesn't show up expecting a package. Even though I never switch it over to production.
