Okay, this is one of the first sites I built in Drupal and since then I have embraced much better practices, but I think I must have hard-coded a status message at checkout and now I can't figure out how I did it (so that I can undo it!)
In the attached image, it's the "You will be billed $1.99 each month unless you notify rulingplanets.com that you wish you cancel your membership." text in the yellow box.
