I am trying to find a solution that will allow me to have pay and free downloads. If this is possible, sign me up because i can't find a solution like this anywhere.
Can you set product price as FREE and have it say FREE as price?

It's just gonna be $0 unless you write a module to change it to FREE. On a side note, why even "sell" a product if it's free? Just give them a download link... 
the reason is I want to lure the people to the store with the FREE category and then maybe they will buy something else
Downloads would be in a different section.
So products with $0.00 price work now, as in you can checkout with $0.00?
Maybe something to do with product types?
how about disabling the showing of the price under product settings/product fields (i think this does this for every product though)
then create a field, edit product in content types and then add a field.
I have disabled 'Display price' under 'Product Fields', but the price is still being displayed.
How can this be?
Caching? You can also edit your product's template - either with Contemplate or product-node.tpl.php - to display the node to your liking.
Actually, the price for me is being displayed in the category, not on the product page.
Does anybody know how I remove the price from the category AND how I get other fields to show in the category? For example, Color.
