Hi folks

I'm getting a lot of spammers creating free accounts on my site and it's driving me nuts. If I change the settings in Drupal admin so that only Administrators can create accounts will Ubercart still be able to create accounts for anonymous checkout transactions.

It's a live site and I'd rather not mess with it to test. Any ideas?

Re: Does Ubercart override Drupal create account settings

Yes, I've done exactly what you want to do, and for exactly the same reason. Ubercart can still create accounts, no problem. Go ahead and disable self-registration.

I also created a "customer" role and grant it to users as they complete orders (using Rules). The role is required to post comments.

There are a lot of anti-spam tools out there. I recommend https://drupal.org/project/spambot. It stops most bot registrations cold and can also find and clean up your existing spammer accounts.

Even better is ZB Block, but you will need to make some special modifications to get it to completely work for Drupal.

Also, enable e-mail validation and admin confirmation of new accounts.

There is a very good list of anti-spam modules at http://groups.drupal.org/node/77093, and there are more tips at http://drupal.org/node/877404.
