I can't seem to work through the complexities of the shipping settings.

My customer has two different shipping methods she wants. One is for scarfs which ship cheaply in an envelope, second will ship in a box and cost more per ounce because of the box and padding etc.

I can't figure out how to not have the scarf option show on products that aren't scarfs.

I also don't get the types at all. Default is small package, but I don't see anywhere to add any other types.

We really need some good explanations on shipping. I've spent probably 10 hours trying to figure it out. Not very cost effective...

Re: Help with Shipping Configurations

Connie... are you looking to calculate shipping or just use a flatrate for each item? Easiest solution here is of course to use the flatrate shipping per product and specify the different value on a per product basis.

Flatrate plus

Thanks Ryan,
My customer wants to use flat rate for most items. But they have a few items they want to use "actual shipping cost" for. Meaning they will calculate the shipping later. So what I did was make a shipping rate set to 0 for that. But they don't want that to show for every item, just the lampshades.

They also sell a lot of scarves, which don't need to go in a box, so they can have a much lower flat rate.

What I can't figure out how to do is how to make only one rate show for each item type. For instance, lamp shades will have the "actual shipping cost", Scarves will have the scarf flat rate, and everything else will have the regular flat rate.

Help would be appreciated ... in the end it's only knowing what to click!

Re: Flatrate plus

Wrote some new documentation which should help you out. A lot of it you probably figured out already, but the Workflow-ng part should be useful. http://www.ubercart.org/docs/user/310/flatrate_shipping_quote

Product Classes instead of Shippng type

I finally figured out that I can use product classes in the way I was wanting to use shipping types. It's a little different than I imagined, but probably better for my client in the long run.

I create the classes, and can then assign shipping variables in rules configuration (under workflow-ng) that select only that shipping type for a certain kind of product. So when entering products we start by selecting the product type (ie: one that will fit in a small package, one that will be drop shipped, or one that will be crate shipped, etc). Then they enter the product and it automagically shows up with the correct shipping type.

Here's the link for creating classes, for anyone else having this same need:
