I'm sure these questions I'm about to ask have been answered several times on forums, but for the life of me I can't seem to find the answers to my exact questions. So sorry in advance for redundancy.

I'd like to create a product that has the option to buy a download and to buy/ship tangible media. The customer would select "download" or "audio cd" from the product detail view and it would add it to their cart with the appropriate taxes (none for downloads) and appropriate shipping settings. I'm having trouble with this for a couple of reasons.

1) I'm not sure how to create a file download that doesn't get taxed like the other product options.
2) I'm almost positive that I'm doing something wrong with the shipping modules and settings, because it tries to ship the downloads and when it tries to give a quote there is an error (this is the FedEx module currently set up correctly with the testing server info). However, it also does this with the tangible media options. I think I'm confusing the system.

What does "Product and its derivatives are shippable" mean exactly? Should this be checked or unchecked? If you were to create a product and put it in the sku, but are only selling the selected options (with their own skus), what exactly are you putting in the "weight" for when you initially create the product? I guess I'm confused as to what those first settings are for when you're creating product options.

If I'm approaching this like an oaf, please feel free to tell me, hopefully along with some info on how to do this all correctly. Thanks Smiling

Re: File Download and Tangible Poducts - Shipping and Taxing

You can login to the admin demo at http://demo.ubercart.org and checkout the setup on the cha0s Jams product to see an example. Check the "Products and its derivatives are shippable." box and then make sure your product feature for the file download marks the associated SKU as non-shippable. I'm not sure about separating taxes based on attributes, though... you may not have any options here.

Thank you so much for your help. That cleared it up for me. Now if only I can figure out a way to not tax downloads.. :/

BTW, you guys are awesome for keeping up with all the forum posts so well.

Re: File Download and Tangible Poducts - Shipping and Taxing

I still haven't been able to find anything on how to turn off taxes for downloads, except for having completely separate products (which defeats the purpose of product options and confuses the purchasing process). I feel like I'm missing something simple. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
