Canadian taxes on shipping

What would be the set up to charge taxes on shipping in Canada.

For example if I'm in BC and I send out an item to BC I have to charge the customer PST and GST on shipping. If someone outside of BC buys an item I would only charge them GST.

Also the shipping is taxed separately from the item taxes and the shipping and shipping tax(s) is added to the total final product price after taxes.

So if I have an item that costs $100

=============================
Total: $100
PST: $7
GST: $5
Total $113
=============================
Shipping: $10
Shipping Taxes (GST+PST) $1.20
Shipping Total: $11.20
=============================
Final Total: $124.20

I guess this means that at the current UC level it can't be done without custom modifications or a custom module.

No, you can specify that taxes apply to both the products and the shipping amount. This is the "Taxed Line Items" group of check boxes in the tax form. If you the taxes on shipping are different rates than the ones on products, you'll just have to make new tax rules. They can use the same location conditions that the are in place for the product taxes.

Hmm I set it up with two new taxes and set them to Taxed line items: shipping I've also set up workflow to charge PST and GST on shipping to orders in my province but the taxes seem way out of whack

This is what it looks like. This item only has one tax since its considered food.

Subtotal: $12.00
Canada Post Regular: $5.93
Subtotal excluding taxes: $17.93
PST on Shipping: $1.26
PST: $0.04
GST: $0.60
GST on Shipping: $0.90
Order total: $20.73

What should be the weight of each tax?

Does anyone have anymore insight into this?

Thanks

Are there any Canadian retailers/sites here that charge taxes on shipping or is it just my cart that is making wrong calculations?

Well I need some help here as I can't get this to work properly.

I've set up my PST and GST taxes plus seperate PST and GST on shipping. I set the Taxline for PST and GST to nothing and PST AND GST on Shipping to Shipping. I've set the weight to 0 for all of them.

GST on Shipping 5% 5% product shipping 0
PST 7% 7% product, product_kit 0
GST 5% 5% product, product_kit 0
PST on Shipping 7% 7% product shipping 0

I set up workflow to charge GST Canada wide and PST British Columbia. If I choose my shipping address as BC the cart charges both GST and PST on shipping.

This is what my payment calculation looks like

Order total preview:
Subtotal: $110.00
Canada Post Priority Courier: $13.06
Subtotal excluding taxes: $123.06
PST on Shipping 7%: $8.61
PST 7%: $7.70
GST on Shipping 5%: $6.15
GST 5%: $5.50
Order total: $151.02

This is what it looks like in my Zen Cart. You'll notice is charges PST and GST on Shipping and then adds that amount to the total after taxes are calculated.

Sub-Total: $110.00
Canada Post (1 box(es) to be shipped) (Priority Courier, 2008-04-22):$13.61
7.0% PST (BC) + 5% GST#99999 99999 RT0001: $13.20
7.0% PST (shipping) + 5.0% GST on shipping: $1.63
Total:$138.44

Thanks

The "GST on Shipping" and "PST on Shipping" shouldn't be applied to "product".
