Unable to select default options for attributes

I'm probably missing something obvious here, but I can't set a default option for any of my product attributes. The radio buttons are present in the default column of the "options" tab when I edit the product, but I'm unable to select anything with them. I don't see anything obvious in the admin pages to help remedy the problem.

The only contributed module I'm using that could be contributing to the issue is perhaps uc_aac? I'm really not sure. Any help is appreciated.

If the attributes are required, then you can't set a default option. The required flag adds a "Please select..." option to the field, which forces the customer to consciously make a choice.

Ah. Makes sense. I'm glad to hear that my site's not screwed up. I took another look and saw the following under the "Make this attribute required" checkbox on the admin page: "Selecting this for an attribute will disregard any default option you specify". Embarrassment, meet Gash, Gash, embarrassment.

I have to run now. The short bus is honking from the curb, and I'd hate to miss my ride.
