Enabling image support

Hi, I am trying to get product images to show up. I have the required modules and selected them. I just can't get to the Store Admin menu and the Store status table to activate image support. There are menus that show up at the top when I'm logged in as admin, and Store Administration is one of the menus, but there is no item called "Store status" underneath it.

Also, I'm unable to get Clean URLs to work at this point. Are they required for image support?

Can anybody help?

I think you need clean urls enabled.
Make sure you have .htaccess file and it works.
