I started to address this problem w/ a simple contrib called Lead Tracker. It's nothing special but should get the job done or give you a starting point for something better.

There's a 2.0 version of Lead Tracker somewhere on this site. I've also nearly finished a module with similar functionality that also allows embed the "Where did you hear about us?" selection in user registration, Webforms, and standard FAPI forms and track the data in a central location. I should have a release ready in a few days... I'll post again when I do.

I've posted a module in contrib called Referral Sources that provides similar functionality to Lead Tracker, but allows you to embed "Where did you hear about us?" type prompts anywhere in your site (registration, checkout, webforms, any other form) and track all submission data in a central location. It can be configured to ask a "how did you find us?" question although it is only an alphanumeric that I can see, not select |

But I have a question. Is there an easy way at the checkout stage or somewhere along the line to add a "Where did you hear about us" select box? We have some referral based commission going on and would like to just add a little drop down so that users can say where they came from and therefore we can work out who should be paid what.
