 Is there currently a referral system where customers input, either as a textarea or a select list ('from a friend','magazine article') how they found the site? Either a simple note that gets saved at each order, or collated to track most common references? I've looked through the contributed modules and am still coming up empty handed. Did I miss something, or has someone else solved this in a different way?

I used this concept for a demo module called Lead Tracker that you can search for and use/modify.

I've posted a module in contrib called Referral Sources that provides similar functionality to Lead Tracker, but allows you to embed "Where did you hear about us?" type prompts anywhere in your site (registration, checkout, webforms, any other form) and track all submission data in a central location.
