I would like to ask you about specific administration theme - whether you use it and if yes, which one?
Or maybe you make your own theme just to administer the store? If yes, please write what features it has.

I think most of the modules produced for the front-end purposes are a little bit too slow for a store administator.

Theme

Generally use the same theme that the customer will see for both the customer and administrator side of the site. However, in some cases it is nice to use one of the default Drupal themes when in the admin mode. They are cleaner and easier to use with black type on a white background in place of a theme with a black background and white type.

Or if your client decides to use a hard to read fount, then it is nice to change the admin theme to something that makes your administrative life easier.

I am not aware of any degradation in performance between themes. Some may have a lot of images to load, while others may not. However, once it is stored in your browser's cache there should be no issue.

If you are seeing poor performance it could be due to your selection of web host, download speed or a host of other issues. If you are having overall speed problems then the best place to view these issues will on drupal.org.

Good luck with the project.
