My timeline for a simple product-based drupal/ubercart site is mid-may, should i develop in 1.x and upgrade to 2.x when it's out of beta, or start in 2.x now, and update as it comes along?

The main client requirements is that this will be a site that can "grow" with them for the next 5 years at least, something that can be updated easily (security updates, pathes). Obviously D6 will receive most of the attention in the next 1-2 years until Drupal 7 comes out, but the big question is, is 2.x ready and how long will it take to reach production phase?

Thanks for any suggestions,
Lu

I would recommend D6 and UC 2

We are about to launch a new site in D6 with the Ubercart 2.x beta, I have not yet found any problems with Ubercart, but I will say that the site has a small number of products and fixed-price shipping, so it is a fairly simple site. But, I still have not found any issues with Ubercart 2 beta.

Re: I would recommend D6 and UC 2

Thank you Brian - i'm not doing anything too fancy on this site, it'll have lots of products, but basic product classes, attributes for most of them, cck image field, taxonomy, taxes, fixed-shipping and so forth.

Do you use quantity discounts on your site?

Hopefully it'll work fine on D6, i'd rather start with drupal 6 and Ubercart 2.x - i imagine that in the long-term starting off with these two will save me some hassle Eye-wink Thanks for your time.

I think using Drupal 6 and 2.0 would be a safe bet by now. You wouldn't be the first live site with 6 and chances look quite good for a stable release by may. Especially of course if you would help a little by reporting bugs and things. Eye-wink
