Question about affiliate cookie for the visiting user

Thank you very much for the tutorial, I could get the module running fine!
May I ask you one question about the meaning of the checkbox: Setting the affiliate cookie for the visiting user.
What does it mean that the affiliate gets credited even when no affiliate is present in links visited?
Normally should I leave it checked or unchecked?
