I am interested in using Ubercart for a website with an automatic subscription. Basically, a customer signs up for an account and then selects the products and time frame of each delivery (recurring every 3 months, 6 months, or annually). The customer would only be charged when the product is shipped. The customer would be free to add more product to their account, remove product or cancel the service from the site. Is this level of support available from Ubercart. A similar business model exists at:

http://www.whirlpool.com/catalog/accessory_product.jsp?parentCategoryId=...

They call it their Automatic Replacement Program. Can this be done easily with Ubercart? Is there a way to determine the cart that they are using?

Thanks for your help in advance. I am new to this, with big ambitions!!!

Sam

Re: Is Ubercart right for me?

I think Ubercart, especially as of 1.6 which is not released yet, will be more than able to handle a site like this. You'll probably need to budget 15 - 20 hours of a developer's time just to make sure the subscriptions are functioning like you need, though.

Not really... we usually wait for bug fixes and such. The 1.5 is pretty new still, but we might get a 1.6 out here in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, you can use the download at http://bazaar.ubercart.org.

Well I need to wipe my tears first (sniff)

I didnt really love drupal in the beginning because I did not have enough knowledge in CMS, but now I absolutely adore it. It makes me think, and has taught me that you can NEVER EVER wish to have a site (and an e-commerce one to boot) within mere weeks of development.

Ubercart is the ULTIMATE choice for e-commerce sites. It handles to much, and for free to boot! Plus the development team is really active. The term flexibility is often misused, but really ubercart is the MOST flexible thing I handled (went through Zen Cart, X-cart and Magento).
