Ubercart . org on D6

Yes, ubercart.org is still currently running a on a D5 installation. Everyone had been so busy with the 2.x push, well, no one really had time to do much else. So, now's a great time, during a minor lull before the D7 port, or 3.x release, to upgrade the website. After a false start last year trying to move ubercart.org to d6, we're ready to try again.

So, without further ado, www.ubercart.org.php5-4.dfw1-2.websitetestlink.com is ready for testing. Please browse around a bit to make sure there are no major issues before we roll over. It is a copy, so the latest posts to ubercart.org may not be there. We are looking to test functionality, not content.

You can report any issues back here, at ubercart.org (not www.ubercart.org.php5-4.dfw1-2.websitetestlink.com) in this forum thread: http://www.ubercart.org/forum/ubercartorg/14899/ubercart_org_d6_attempt_2

Thank you for testing it out and providing your valuable feedback.

so far so good - hide from search engines

So far it looks fine to me. One thing I suggest is to hide that domain from search engines. You can use a "Disallow" entry in robots.txt or hide it behind Apache's basic authentication, but you'll want to do something. Otherwise the poor search engines get confused and you will lose traffic.

Navigation on Chrome Linux is broken.

The demo is wrapped to a second line in the navigation when using Chrome on Linux. The nav colours are also off.

Menu bar wrapping.

I think "Demo" wrapped on your screen due to screen size (resolution) limits. When I look at ucd6.ubercart.org in 1024x786 it looks fine, but if I downsize much smaller then that the menu bar starts to wrap. The image you linked to is 944x1150.
I guess I feel it is better to wrap and look a little ugly then to make the user scroll horizontally, but I don't feel strongly either way. I'll look into using the space between Demo and Donate a little better. Maybe then we can get the best of both worlds.

You are absolutely correct about the nav colors. We'll try to correct that before we switch.
Thanks for taking a look and finding these problems.
Cheers,
Andy

Re: Menu bar wrapping.

I think you're right about the screen size, as this is what also happens on the current ubercart site when I make my browser small.

It just looks wrong and it caught my eye, so I brought it up.

Not sure if this matters much, but the copyright shows "Ubercart - Original content ©2006-09."

Hosting

Hi,

The temp domain suggests you are on Rackspace cloud... I am just working on porting over some sites there and would love to pool experience on running Drupal on this host. Maybe not in this thread but PM me if that's ok?

kind regards

Large monitors

Hi Guys,

Would you be able to drop in a max-width to the main page?
Maybe something like "#content{max-width:1500px}"?

Only reason I say this is it's a pain reading in text that scrolls miles on a large monitor.

The other question I have is why tables for layout?

Logo

Hi Everyone,

Sorry, found another CSS one for you.
The main logo could do with a bit of padding.
#logo{height:90px; padding:15px 0 15px 0px; margin:0px;}

Also, the "One cart to rule them all" image on the home page has a blue fade on it.
Maybe you could bring this image up to the top and put a background under it to fill all the way along under the text?
Just so it doesn't simply end.
Or you could use a white background?

Couldn't see anything else, it all looks and feels sweet.

Dave.

I'm looking at it in 1920x1080. I personally don't mind the long text lines. Actually I prefer it because I feel it allows me to see more content at a time, but that is just my opinion. Anybody else want to weigh in?

We are aware you can't currently reply to forum posts (just news posts? odd), so please don't panic, and please don't make like 30 new posts.

Edit: fixed, I hope.
