Ubercart 2.0 for Drupal 6 Released!

Ahh, the milestone at last. Today we're pleased to announce the release of Ubercart 2.0 on drupal.org! Since the last release candidate, we've fixed a few bugs and ironed out issues related to role promotions, file downloads, product kits, and more. Over a dozen people contributed patches since RC7, with many dozens more being contributors to the 2.0 release overall. Wow! Cool

Known for its stability and flexibility, Ubercart powers the e-commerce of roughly 5% of all Drupal sites without ever hitting a final major release on Drupal 6. Even prior to this release, Ubercart 2.x has been in use for some time on a large number of sites (over 10,000 according to the usage statistics). Achieving this milestone lends that much more credibility to the project and the community around it that really makes it shine.

As many of you know, we spent last week in a sprint and at BADCamp hashing out the future of Ubercart. Look for a blog post with a little more info from me later today. We'll keep you well informed of growth as we look to the future of Ubercart on Drupal 7. It's gonna be huge. Laughing out loud

You can grab the latest version of Ubercart and its dependent/recommended modules from our project page, and be sure to report any bugs (but not support requests) in the issue tracker. We've got a lot of patches in the queue needing review for inclusion in a planned 2.1, so if you have any extra bandwidth, you might browse the issues and lend a hand.

Three cheers for progress!

UPDATE: Turns out there's a module conflict when Ubercart 2.0 is used in conjunction with the Date module. We'll provide a patch shortly so affected sites can keep running the 2.0... it really should just take a one line workaround. Follow this issue if your site is affected. Smiling

UPDATE 2: Even though there aren't significant changes in the 2.0 final release, you should still run update.php to clear out your site caches and grab one minor database column change.

Is there an "executive summary" version of what's new in 2.0? I follow the blog, but don't keep REALLY up to date. I can find incredibly detailed lists of changes, but nowhere is there a short list of major new features - the closest thing I've found is to step through each beta and RC release and try to add them all up.

Since I'm a 100% Drupal/Ubercart developer I cant say much about other carts or e-commerce solutions.

But Ubercart 2.0 is for me close to the holy grail, and is becoming closer. It's not without problems or pitfalls, but there are NEVER dead ends, like you can find "developing" in OSC or Maganto. This is because support is good and responsive, code fairly well written and the nature of Drupal very flexible and modular.

Great! I just get to know to drupal and found a lot of interesting features for it. How do I get update notifications? Will this be sent to my email registered to ubercart.com? Thanks in advance!
