Mike Nelson's RiffTrax!

Mike Nelson's RiffTrax! logo

From the site: RiffTrax.com is an innovative new site featuring the hilarious DVD commentaries of Michael J. Nelson - Star of the legendary Mystery Science Theater 3000!

At RiffTrax.com, you can download Mike's feature-length commentaries and listen to these "RiffTrax" in sync with your favorite, and not so favorite DVDs. It's like watching a movie with your funniest friend.

Many of you might remember the show MST3k, a favorite of mine and by far one of the greatest cult TV shows in recent memory. The spirit lives on with RiffTrax, a site which sells (now with Übercart!) mp3 downloads of commentary that you sync up with your DVD. Doing this removes the licensing restrictions that the old show endured, and allows Mike and co. to riff on the modern blockbusters, as well as the not-so-blockbusters.

The new "RiffTrax Store" represents one part of our current site redevelopment, which will focus more on the community and allow for interactivity between fans and content creators. Features are in the works that will let users create their own "fan riffs," as well as tracking their buddies' favorite tracks, blogging, subscriptions, payment using "RiffBucks," and loads of other fun stuff. The new (complete) site will relaunch in March of 2008.

Modules I've implemented for the new shopping cart (besides UC and uc_file) include: PathAuto, Views, CCK, Secure Pages, Thickbox, LoginToboggan, Taxonomy, and probably lots of others I can't begin to remember. Also some custom modules for Ubercart that prevent a "Coming Soon" product from being added to the cart, and my File Downloads Retro contrib.

Many, many thanks to the ÜberCommunity, especially Shawn Conn, without whom our File Downloads feature would be a mere shadow of its current self.

Übercart together with Drupal is going to allow RiffTrax to expand into the Web 2.0 world, and we couldn't be more excited about it. Here's to lots of future development.

You can see some samples at http://www.youtube.com/rifftrax and read about us on MSNBC.com and in The New York Times (1520 diggs!) View more at our blog!

And if you have free time, we have a very active community on our forum.

Re: Mike Nelson's RiffTrax - The Store!

Just wanted to give a quick update. The entire RiffTrax site has now been migrated to Drupal! We're missing some of the User-generated content that used to be on the old system, but that will come back with time.

Check it out! www.rifftrax.com - if the homepage doesn't take you to /content then you might be seeing the old site still (DNS propagation takes a while in some areas)...

Re: Re: Mike Nelson's RiffTrax!

Thanks, one of our intrepid fans submitted the story. We've been slashdotted and Dugg before, and haven't had a problem, although I think this'll be the first time we've been linked since I converted the entire site over to Drupal. Seems to be holding up quite well.
